Article 87
Eligibility for Members

(1) A person possessing the following qualifications shall be eligible to be a member of the Federal Parliament:-
(a) Citizens of Nepal,
(b) having attained the age of twenty-five years for the House of Representatives and thirty-five years for the National Assembly,
(c) Not having been convicted of a criminal offense of moral turpitude,
(d) is not disqualified by any federal law, and
(e) Not holding any position of profit. Explanation: For the purposes of this section, "office of profit" means any other office which receives remuneration or financial benefits from government funds, except political office filled by election or nomination.
(2) No person can be a member of both Houses at the same time.
(3) If a person holding a political position to be elected, nominated or appointed is elected or nominated as a member of the Federal Parliament in accordance with this part, such position shall be automatically vacated from the day he takes the oath of office as a member of the Federal Parliament.
